Frog Song in memory of Fred

A Frogtastrophy

One of our tadpoles turned into a frog during the weekend which was was very exciting and we all loved looking at him..  We named him Fred.  I put Fred into a bigger tank so he would have more room to move around.  but sadly during writing this morning Fred escaped his tank paradise and started his big OE outside the tank and in room 4.  I hope he made it outside but fear the worst has happened to poor Fred and his newly found frog freedom.

Sophie R's weekend recount

In  the weekend I went to a  motal and  I had a spa. When   I woke up we went to the Waitomo Caves. I went on a big metal bot in to the caves.  We saw glow worms and the cave was dark.  My Daddy was scaring me and saying there was an eel and I was really brave.  We walked out a long path and we had nuggets and chips.

Matthew's weekend recount

St Patricks day

What fun we had today all our learning was based around St Patricks day.  We had a little try at Irish dancing and even ate some leprachaun berries( kiwi berries) that the cheeky leprachauns left at the end of the rainbow instead of gold.  The children enjoed tasting them and writing stories about the leprachaun berries.  I made a jibjab with some of the children Irish dancing (I am trying to get it on the blog so you can see)

Tadpole Mania

Today we were given 4 tadpoles all in different stages of transforming.  The buzz , excitement and interst these tadpoles created today was fantastic.  We learnt about the life cycle of frogs, what tadpoles like to eat and how long the transformation takes.  The children were learning how to ask questions about tadpoles.  Some of the common questions were, what do tadpoles eat? how do their tails fall off, where do you find tadpoles.

Grumpy Bear

We read the big book Grumpy Bear then the children made masks of the animals.  We practiced every day, we worked on changing our voices and acting.  The bees loved chasing me (grumpy bear) and stinging me.  We got some children in room 4 to video it but sadly it didnt work.  I might need to  teach them how to use the camera  anyway I got one photo of our masks.

Fun 4 U

This afternoon all the juniors from most of Whakatane went to Rex Morpeth Park for a fun sport afternoon.  There was a range of different sporting activities that were taken by people who coached that sport.  We did footbal, netball atheletics and adapative sport.  It was a fantastic afternoon and the children got  a little sample of what these sports are like.

Hedgehog Fun

After reading about how to make hedgehogs we decided to make hedgehogs.  The children enjoyed making them but loved eating them.  What a great way to get to get lots of fruit into children.

Football

Last week and most of this week Michael Ward has been teaching us football skills.  Room 4 is loving  the games.  Our favourite is running the gauntlet and aliens.  All of us are really improving on our dribbling skills Mrs Ward needs to keep practising her kicking skills so the ball goes where she wants it to.

How many teeth do sharks have?

We read an article about sharks and found that they have 3000 teeth.  We have only 20 teeth.  We counted beans to find out what 3000 looked like.  We only had 1000 beans but look at the differnt size piles.  3000 is LOTS of teeth.
